Press Release for Immediate Release

We the 99 Presents the People’s Summit for Global Economic Justice This November – Rising Together for Justice, Equality and Change

Thursday, 6 November 2025, Johannesburg – Taking place from Thursday, November 20th through to
Saturday, November 22nd at the historic Constitution Hill, Johannesburg, We the 99’s People’s Summit for
Global Economic Justice will see voices from across the globe rise together for justice, equality and change.

Taking place just days before the G20 Leaders’ Summit, hosted in South Africa for the first time, the
gathering will challenge and reframe dominant narratives about the global economy. While G20 leaders meet behind closed doors to decide the fate of billions, We the 99 will open the space for people,
movements and communities to assert that economic decisions must serve humanity, not markets.

The much-anticipated, carefully structured three-day event will focus on interrogating global inequality and
advancing people-centred alternatives through movement-building, civil society dialogue and music.

We the 99 believes that structuring the event as a counterpoint to the G20 offers a critical moment for
global power-shifting a chance to reimagine an international economic order centred on fairness, solidarity,
and shared prosperity. The Summit will amplify calls for debt justice, equitable climate finance, fair taxation,
and economic democracy issues at the heart of people’s everyday struggles but often absent from elite
decision-making tables.

Creating a dynamic environment that bridges policy advocacy, activism, and cultural expression,
politically conscious artists will deliver an impactful, participatory event that is both intellectually
urgent and emotionally resonant. We the 99 will not only be a space for celebration, but a rallying
point for sustained, global action to reshape the future economy in service of people and planet.

A talented top tier line-up of powerful artists and creatives will usher versatile entertainment on all
event days. Much-loved names such as ‘iPhupho L’ka Biko’, ‘Buhlebendalo’, ‘Lebo Mashile’,
‘Maglera Doe Boy’, ‘DBN Gogo’, ‘DJ Kenzhero’ and ‘The Brother Moves On’ are all part of the
festivities, proving it to be a true people-driven moment.

“Inequality can’t just be debated in conference halls – it’s challenged in the streets and sung on our stages.
We’re calling out a global economy built by and for the 1%. We the 99 uprising festival is about young people
making themselves heard. It’s a declaration that the future belongs to us. Young people, artists, and workers
are turning protest into power. This is what global solidarity sounds like, the heartbeat of a world ready to
rise from the G20 to the festival grounds – We the 99 are uniting to demand tax justice, fair public spending,
and an equal world where wealth and power are shared”, says Kearabetswe Moopelo, Programme Officer,
Advocacy & Campaigns – New Economy Hub.

Stay tuned, stay ready, stay involved.
