What is We, The 99% People’s Summit for Global Economic Justice?

The People’s Summit is where the 99% come together to take back power from the 1% who have captured it.

As the G20 Leaders meet behind closed doors at Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, We The 99 People’s Summit will open doors for everyone, 10km away, at Constitution Hill from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 November 2025.

At the People’s Summit, thousands will gather for three days of radical conversation, art, music, and action. This will be our space, the Global Majority, to tell our own story, share struggles and solutions, and show that another world isn’t just possible – it’s already being built in our communities.

We The 99 are people that feed, care for, and have solutions to create just and fairer economies free from exploitative debt, extractivism and capture. We are queer, trans, Black, Brown, Indigenous, from every corner of the earth being derailed by centuries of theft and exploitation, but we remain hopeful.

From Soweto to São Paulo, Manila to Mombasa, Cairo to Kingston, We the 99% are rising, marching, organising, teaching, dreaming, and refusing to stay silent.

While the G20 Summit serves the 1%, the People’s Summit belongs to the 99%. It’s a celebration of people-power, of solidarity, creativity, and hope. It’s our chance to show that democracy lives not in boardrooms and committees, but in the streets, the villages, and the hearts of those who refuse to be silenced.

The Summit Experience – Principles

The We The 99% People’s Summit at Constitution Hill is designed to reflect the fair, caring, and just world we are fighting for. Every part of the event – food, behaviour, accessibility, and participation – aims to embody our shared values of equality, solidarity, and respect.

Living Our Values

All participants, vendors, and volunteers must sign the Call to Action and Code of Conduct. Respect, safety, and non-discrimination are essential. Anyone acting outside these principles may be removed.

Collective Care

We are not just demanding change, we are practicing it. Everyone shares responsibility for creating a space rooted in patience, care, empathy, and solidarity. With so many cultures, backgrounds, and experiences in one place, differences will arise. We meet them with understanding and respect, and act together against any form of bigotry, discrimination, or abuse.

Food and Drink

Meals will be accessed by token to ensure equality. We prioritise Black-owned, women-led, and marginalised-group vendors offering diverse and inclusive meals. No products on the BDS boycott list will be sold. Water points will be available – bring a reusable bottle, or we have one for you.

Respect for religious diversity

Appropriate spaces are provided for people to practice their religious beliefs, in a peaceful and safe environment.

Inclusion of the differently abled

The venue is accessible to participants with physical disabilities and users of wheelchairs. English sign language interpretation is provided.

Tickets and Redistribution

Ticket income supports artists, logistics, and helps fund attendance for those with fewer resources. The Day 3 99% Uprising Festival will be partly ticketed, with proceeds redistributed to make participation fair and accessible.

Care and Services

Essential public services like water, health checks, and legal advice will be available on-site.

Children and Families

The Summit is family-friendly with safe, inclusive play areas run by Play Africa, though the Day 3 99% Uprising Festival will not be child-suitable due to alcohol sales and crowd size.

Privacy and Consent

Always ask before taking photos and never post pictures of minors. Respect privacy identifiers and avoid attributing personal statements publicly.

The Summit is a living example of the world we are building — one of justice, equality, and collective care.

We, The 99% People’s Summit will be taking place from November 20-22, 2025, at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, South Africa. As G20 leaders meet behind closed doors, We the 99 is creating a vibrant counter space for thousands of activists, artists, and community members from around the country, the Global South and beyond.

This is not a traditional conference. It is a people’s festival of resistance and solidarity. Experience a dynamic blend of radical dialogue and education, artistic rebellion, intergenerational storytelling, all culminating in a world-class concert on Day 3, all centered on building a prosperous and economically just future for people and the planet.

Help shape this historic event. Join a coordination group or contribute as an artist, volunteer, or campaigner. Together, let’s challenge the system and build a movement for justice and dignity for all! Add your power to the 99%.

People’s Assembly Venue

Our venue for the 3-day We the 99% People’s Summit is Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, South Africa, a historic building that embodies our core themes of resistance, justice, and reclaiming power. Con-Hill is a former women’s prison complex that once held icons of the anti-apartheid struggle like Winie Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, symbolising the brutal enforcement of a system designed to suppress the majority.

It is now a living museum and dynamic tribute to the struggle history of South Africa and a home to the country’s Constitutional Court, a beacon of hope and the guardian of the nation’s hard-won democracy. This juxtaposition of a former prison with the highest court of justice creates a profound narrative arc—from oppression to liberation, from exclusion to rights.

It is on these grounds that we will be gathering the masses to shape a collective future and invoke real, and bring about far-reaching change.

During the politically charged time of the G20, when world leaders meet behind closed doors, We the 99 is creating a vibrant counterspace for thousands of activists, artists, and community members from around the country, the Global South and beyond.

Travel and accommodation assistance

Welcome to the Summit

This gathering is about coming together across movements, communities and borders to share ideas, build solidarity and take action. Everyone has something valuable to bring. While we cannot fund everyone, we are doing our best to make the space as inclusive as possible. There are different ways to take part — in person, online, or as an organisation helping to make the summit happen.

We want to bring together a diverse mix of voices from South Africa and beyond. To help manage this fairly, there are a few ways to participate:

Participants

Choose Self-Organised if…

You or your organisation can cover your own costs (travel, accommodation and other expenses)

You are able to make your own arrangements to attend

You are happy to take this path, knowing it helps keep limited support available for those who need it most

Choose Assistance Consideration if…

● You would not be able to attend without financial support

● You are part of a community, group or movement that does not have the means to send participants

● You understand that funds are very limited, and we cannot promise support for everyone

If you cannot be funded to attend in person, we are still glad you want to be part of the summit. We will livestream selected sessions, so you can connect, learn and contribute from wherever you are.

Register to express your interest in attending the People’s Summit and you need assistance in joining us in South Africa

Respect for local laws and venue regulations

All foreign visitors are expected to observe and respect the internal rules and guidelines of all venues, hotels, and facilities used during our events. To ensure everyone’s safety and coordination, participants are requested not to leave their group or move around independently without first informing an event organiser or safeguarding staff. This is especially important when navigating unfamiliar areas or using local transport.

Child and vulnerable adult protection

While our events are primarily intended for adult participants, strict safeguarding protocols will apply should any children or vulnerable individuals be present in any capacity (e.g. accompanying guests, or local community members).

All participants are expected to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and ensure a safe, respectful, and protective environment at all times. This includes:

● Avoiding any unsupervised one-on-one contact with children or vulnerable adults.
● Refraining from any physical contact unless it is appropriate, consensual, and necessary.
● Not photographing or recording minors or vulnerable individuals without prior consent from their parent,     guardian, or appointed caregiver.

● Immediately reporting any concerns or incidents involving the safety or well-being of a child or vulnerable adult to the Safeguarding Committee.

Any breach of this safeguarding policy will be addressed based on the nature and seriousness of the violation, in accordance with We The 99’s internal frameworks and/or according to applicable local laws.

The safety and dignity of all individuals—especially those at greater risk of harm—is a shared responsibility. Your cooperation helps us maintain a smooth, secure, and respectful environment for everyone involved. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to collective safety and accountability.
